Schools for the future
Schools for the Future is an ambitious, long-term programme to raise education standards in Central Bedfordshire by ensuring the area has the right schools, in the right places, delivering the best education.
Moving towards a two-tier educational system is part of achieving this.
By 2035, we'll have delivered at least 39,350 new homes. Over 27,000 of those homes are already built, or planned for (as set out in the Local Plan).
So a lot more school places will be needed in some areas, and we are working with schools to plan for this. Alongside these new homes, some communities will have little or modest housing growth and more school places will not be needed here.
The objectives of the Programme are to:
Improve educational outcomes at all key stages
Shape the future educational landscape - to provide clear educational pathways and reduce the number of transitions between schools for pupils
Ensure sufficient places (appropriately located) to best meet demand from housing growth
Deliver best value – to ensure viability
Facilitate more school-based SEND (Special Educational Needs & Disability) provision
